POSITION PURPOSE To conduct maintenance and repair services to ensure that vehicles operate in a safe, reliable and efficient manner in accordance with Bus Queensland Group Policies and Procedures. DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE To work on assigned repair and / or maintenance tasks within the scope of your competencies and trade qualifications. Guidance on more complex aspects of work is readily available from the Workshop Supervisor and / or in consultation with technical resources of vehicle / part suppliers. KEY RELATIONSHIPS InternalExternal Workshop Supervisor Depot Manager Fleet Manager Group Management Team Health and Safety Officer Controllers / Operations Stores Clerk; Driving EmployeesContractors / Subcontractors QT / RTA Representatives External Auditors Parts Distributors HOW YOU WILL BE MEASURED IN YOUR ROLE In accordance with the Bus QLD performance review timetable, you and your immediate manager will review your on the job performance annually and at other set times during the year. This review will be completed in relation to your position description and the delivery of your Key Performance Indicators. Your Position Description will be reviewed and updated as part of the annual Performance Review. KEY PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (which may not be delegated) 1.To adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Safe Work Procedures at all times; 2.Report to the Health and Safety Officer on any matter that may expose employees to hazards / potential injury; 3.Adopting a hands on approach to conduct vehicle maintenance / repairs and safety inspections as per Safe Work Procedures and in accordance with QT / RTA regulations; 4.Ensure vehicles on repair are tagged accordingly to prevent injury to yourself or others; 5.Follow safe and reasonable work instructions and directions issued to you by the Workshop Supervisor / Fleet Manager & Senior Management explicitly and at all times; 6.Maintain electronic records within TIMS to meet maintenance requirements (records of stock removed and work carried out on individual vehicles) in conjunction with the Stores Clerks stock control parameters; 7.Work proactively with the Controllers / Operations, Workshop Supervisor and Depot Manager in maintaining and improving availability of the fleet; 8.Conduct vehicle preventative maintenance and repair work in accordance with the manufacturers requirements and specifications; 9.Conduct work only to a skill level that you are qualified and authorized to do; 10.Maintain workshop plant / equipment in good order and apply best practice housekeeping at all times; 11.Operate plant and / or equipment only if qualified and authorized to do so i.e. forklift; 12.Trouble shooting and minor maintenance repairs of ticket machines; and 13.Supervise apprentices / trades assistants as and when directed by the Workshop Supervisor in a safe and efficient manner. KEY RESULTS AREA GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES ResponsibilitiesKey Performance Indicators Health and Safety1.Zero lost time injuries; 2.No safety breaches regarding maintenance; 3.Availability and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); 4.Zero damage to plant or equipment; 5.100% Compliance with Policies and Safe Work Procedures; 6.100% Rectification of hazards reported; 7.Full compliance with tagging and isolation procedures; 8.Full compliance in isolation of vehicles on repair (VOR); 9.Maintain a safe and tidy workshop. Vehicle Mechanical Maintenance1.Conduct preventative maintenance to achieve maximum availability; 2.Engine and transmissions repaired / replaced as determined by test results; 3.Defects / Driver reported faults rectified in a timely manner; 4.Conduct breakdown and general repair work; 5.Vehicles serviced in accordance with manufacturers specifications; 6.Vehicles serviced in accordance with internal directives. Air Conditioning.1.Maintain systems to a level acceptable to drivers and passengers; 2.Perform periodic testing of AC Units to ensure parameters meet manufacturers specifications; 3.Change out minor parts e.g. fans fuses, clutch and wiring (gas work is not permitted unless authorized); 4.Perform diagnostic work and program changes using laptop computer to ensure temperature gradients suit seasonal conditions. Panel and / or Glass Repair.1.Ensure panel and /or glass repairs meet with QT / RTA requirements and Company image; 2.Perform minor work only e.g. cut and replace damaged frame sections as identified. Auto Electrical Systems.1.Maintain electrical systems while maintaining bus availability; 2.100% Compliance with safety device operation. Wheels and Tyres.1.Perform brake tests (if equipment is available onsite); 2.Conduct wheel rotations; 3.100% Compliance with Australian Standards, QT / RTA Regulations and Manufacturers Specifications. QT / RTA Vehicle Inspections.1.Pre-Machinery Inspection preparation; 2.100% Compliance with QT / RTA Vehicle Inspections and schedule. Diagnostic Work.1.Identify faults within the vehicle systems to ensure expedient repair is carried out using intergrated external computer systems and on board vehicle systems; 2.Accurately determine the results of oil samples to prevent engine / transmission damage.   Stock Control1.Ensure stock removed from the warehouse is documented accurately; 2.Ensure stock arriving to the warehouse is documented accurately; 3.Ensure parts are accurately logged against the vehicle under repair; 4.Participate in stocktakes in accordance with: Annual Requirements; and Weekly or as otherwise determined by the Fleet Manager. Call outs1.Respond to on road breakdowns as directed and either: Repair vehicle; Organise towing back to the depot; 2.100% compliance with on road safety procedures (triangles, flashing lights reflective clothing etc.) in accordance with Company Policies, Safe Work Procedures, Australian Standards and QLD / NSW Road rules; 3.Maintain response vehicle to a standard that ensures reliability; 4.Ensure sufficient stock is available on hand to expedite vehicle repairs; 5.Record stock numbers, fleet numbers etc. accurately in TIMS. Forklift and / or other Plant1.Conduct daily pre-start inspections and update vehicle inspection book; 2.Maintain vehicle in accordance with safety standards to ensure reliability for loading and unloading stock.   Transport Intergrated Management Systems (TIMS)1.100% accuracy and frequency of data entry into the system: Defects logged and closed; Services scheduled and closed; Maintenance work logged accurately i.e. labour time on quick fix work orders; Stock control i.e. part numbers match work orders and fleet numbers. Apprentice / Trades Assistant1.Ensure apprentice / trades assistant works within the scope of his / her level of apprenticeship / skill; 2.Check work to ensure that it has been carried out as directed and completed to Company standards and manufacturers specifications; 3.Ensure apprentice / trades assistant work safely and efficiently. SCOPE OF DECISION MAKING The position is administered under close supervision and operates within well defined policy guidelines and company protocols. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Successful completion of relevant Trade qualifications; Mechanical experience on a variety of light and heavy commercial vehicles; Exposure to diagnostics on computer controlled mechanical components; Sound diagnostic and problem solving skills; Sound interpersonal written and verbal communication skills; Capacity for technical innovation and strategy development; Computer literate.
